Wildlight
Beyond Colour – A Monochrome Collection of the wildlife images and projects
Wildlight is an ongoing black-and-white fine art photography project exploring the form, character, behaviours and essence of wild animals. By removing colour to highlight the natural structure, expression, and presence of wildlife, the project invites a deeper connection with each subject — revealing animals in their most elemental and evocative form.
This large growing body of work stands at the centre of an evolving artistic journey, with a number of smaller, connected projects branching from it. Each of these smaller works explores different aspects or themes within the same monochrome wildlife aesthetic, contributing to the depth and scope of Wildlight as a whole.
A selection of five images from this collection has already been exhibited as part of a dedicated showcase, with many more planned for future exhibitions and publications (for more information please see bellow). As Wildlight continues to evolve, it reflects a personal journey into fine art wildlife photography.
What makes Wildlight unique is its commitment to stripping away distraction in order to reveal something deeper — a quiet, focused way of seeing wildlife. In a world saturated with vibrant, fast-paced imagery, this project takes a slower, more considered approach. By working solely in black and white, Wildlight invites viewers to engage with the wildlife not just as subjects of nature photography, but as creatures with their own beauty.

“Wildlife Photography from Scotland” was Shona’s first solo exhibition and her first time sharing her wildlife photography with the public. It was an incredible experience that taught her a great deal and marked a pivotal moment in the direction of her work.
The exhibition helped her discover her passion for fine art wildlife photography, particularly in black and white. It gave her the confidence to fully embrace this style and explore its creative potential.

IT’S ABOUT TIME
Seven women. Seven visions.
FLOW Photofest presents LVII: It’s About Time, a women’s-only exhibition at Eden Court Theatre. Featuring seven women and seven unique visions, the show is a celebration of women in photography by the LVII Collective.
For this exhibition, Shona Graham-Taylor is showing eight works from her ongoing project Wildlight. The selection is includes two standalone images and two triptychs from the first sub-project, Emergence.
Wildlight: Emergence
Emergence is a black-and-white fine art exploration of butterflies — often seen as symbols of transformation, grace, and freedom. Stripping away colour allows focus on detail, contrast, and the intricate beauty of their wings, while also revealing a quiet strength that is often overlooked.
Created specifically for It’s About Time, the series reflects themes of growth, change, and self-definition — resonating with both the natural life cycle of the butterfly and the artist’s evolving voice. Through light, shadow, and form, Emergence invites viewers to pause, observe, and connect with fleeting moments of beauty and becoming

What’s Next?
As Wildlight continues to grow, the next phase of the project will focus on developing a series of smaller, themed sub-projects within the wider body of work. These connected collections will explore more focused ideas such as specific species and behaviours, using a more artistic approach to storytelling through photography. Each will experiment with light, form, and composition to express the character and movement of wildlife in new and creative ways — all within the stripped-back language of black and white.
Future exhibitions are planned to showcase both existing work and new additions to the project. These exhibitions will offer a deeper look into the ongoing development of Wildlight, highlighting its continued shift toward expressive, fine art wildlife photography.
