The Negative Space
Shadows, Light, and the Darkroom Process
The Negative Space is devoted to my analogue practice. Alongside my digital work, film photography is an equally important part of what I do. This body of work consists of images captured on film and hand-printed in the darkroom. Each print is unique, carrying the textures of film grain and the subtle qualities of the handmade process. The darkroom is slower and more tactile, demanding patience and precision, but it produces a completely different body of work. Every print reflects not only the subject in front of the lens but also the craft of making — the chemistry of development and the time spent bringing the image to life.
My analogue practice is rooted in both process and subject. I work primarily with landscapes, details within the land, and structures found in nature — exploring form, texture, and atmosphere through the slower, more tactile medium of film. For me, the darkroom is not only where images are developed, but where they fully take shape; each photograph carries the unique characteristics of the film, the chemistry of its making, and the patience of the process.
I am an active member and committee member of Inverness Darkroom, where I first learned darkroom techniques in 2021. Since then, it has been the space where I continue to develop and refine my skills as a film photographer. Being part of the darkroom community has shaped both my practice and my commitment to analogue photography.
Many of my analogue works have been exhibited, most recently in 2025, and each exhibition has allowed me to share the unique qualities of hand-developed photographs — images that cannot be replicated digitally, but instead exist as one-of-a-kind expressions of light, shadow, and material craft.

What’s Next?
My analogue practice is an ongoing journey — I am continually developing my skills and refining my techniques, and this will continue throughout my career as there is always more to learn, explore, and improve. I plan to take my work to many more exhibitions in the future, sharing both new and existing projects with a wider audience.
Alongside exhibitions, I am committed to continuing my ongoing and current projects, including Tanks, while also exploring new directions in film photography. The process of learning, experimenting, and refining is central to my practice, and I look forward to seeing how my work evolves in the years to come.
